Things I’m sure he did before and after this video:
1.) Read Toyotas manual on how to properly ford a water crossing.

2.) Scouted said water crossing before attempting it.

3.) After this video, he took the time to drain the diff fluid and replace the fluid that is probably now been mixed with water. Definitely is not still driving around with that fluid in the diffs.

The Oppo meet and my parents being out of town has completely absorbed all of our time so far. We’re going to replace the engine instead of 2UZ swap after all though. Plan is to buy new engine, reseal it top to bottom, clean it up, upgrade as wanted, then enjoy. 2UZ swap is going to have to happen in the FJ40.

Nope. Haven’t even seen the vehicle more than once. At this point, they’re probably just getting recovered though. Just want it on the road and my parents are flying like mad people right now.

You still have to be careful if you do a lot of crossings, water can work its way through the seals too.

Your maximum wading depth is limited by many more things than just the engine air intake.

Dorkels (correct spelling) are mostly about clean air but even then they need an inline dust separator or prefilter to be truly effective.

I mean yes, that is why I’ve always found them silly. Diff breathers and such aside, my ECU is under the diver’s seat, which is much lower than my air intake. Sure you shouldn’t get water ingress when fording but....
